Counselor Shivani Misri Sadhoo says that the goal of DBT (Dialectic Behaviour Therapy) is to help individuals and couples learn to manage difficult emotions by allowing themselves to experience, recognize and accept emotions, rather than ignoring those or pushing them aside.
DBT uses a balance of acceptance and change methods. You will work with counselor Shivani to find a good balance between (acceptance– accepting yourself as you are, and change-making positive changes in your life. Acceptance methods focus on understanding yourself as a person, and making sense of the way you have learned to deal with intensified emotions in ways that are devastating in the long term. Change techniques are then used to help you to change unhelpful/harmful conducts and learn more effective methods of dealing with your distress.
